The Island of Lana’i

Aloha from the island of Lana’i in Hawaii! You guys, this little island isĀ amazing!!! Check out the video and details below!

My friends and I set off on the ferry from Maui to Lana’i and rented a Jeep to explore for the day! Lana’i is so very different from the other Hawaiian Islands. Most of the land is undeveloped and only accessible by dirt roads, so you need a 4WD to really do it justice.

After a few hours it became difficult to tell if I was in Hawaii or Colorado! Red rocks, oceans of grass waving in the breeze, horses, deer…what a wonderland in the middle of the ocean!

We docked at Manele Harbor, stopped off in Lanai City, walked along Shipwreck Beach and found the Petroglyphs, stopped by the mini horse ranch, cruised up to Garden of the Gods (and almost got hit by a jumping deer), cuddled the cats at Lanai Cat Sanctuary, cruised around the Four Seasons Resort, and then took the ferry back to Maui!

Travel details: John Price with Lanai Jeep Rental was awesome. If you’re looking for a Jeep Rental when you visit Lana’i, give him a call. 808-280-7092. He’ll pick you up and drop you off at the harbor so you don’t need to use the shuttle. Also, the ferry does kama’aina/military/group rates, so ask for the best price option. It normally costs $60 RT and we got ours for $42/person. The ride is about 45 minutes each way and arrives/departs at various times throughout the day. Reserve your tickets online to guarantee your spot. Indoor/outdoor seating available.
